Editorial Guidelines

How we decide what to test, how we test it, and how we correct ourselves when we get something wrong.

Effective Date: August 2026
01

Mission Statement

ProCritique exists to publish software, SaaS, and AI tool reviews that are actually tested, not rewritten from a vendor’s own marketing page. We’re dedicated to delivering honest, plain-English verdicts that help readers decide what to buy — or what not to — without gambling a subscription on copy written to sell it.

“If we wouldn’t recommend it to a friend spending their own money, we don’t recommend it to you.” — our operating standard, not a slogan.

Core Editorial Principles

Every review published on ProCritique is built against the following principles. These aren’t aspirational — they’re the actual checks every piece of content goes through before and after it’s live.

Accuracy & Verification

Every price, plan, and feature claim traces back to a source we can point to — usually the vendor’s own current pricing page. Where a figure can’t be independently verified, we say so explicitly in the article rather than presenting it as confirmed fact.

Independence

We do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review, and affiliate relationships never determine our rankings. We name the honest runner-up even when it has no affiliate program and the “winner” does.

Transparency

Affiliate and sponsored links are disclosed — see our Affiliate Disclosure. Every review states its assessment methodology and does not hide behind vague “editor’s choice” badges with no criteria attached.

Fairness to the Product

We test before we publish. If a product is genuinely good, we say so even when it competes with an advertiser. If it’s mediocre, we say that too, even when it pays a higher commission.

Reader Privacy

We collect only what’s described in our Privacy Policy, and we don’t share reader data with the products we review.

Niche Focus Over Volume

We’d rather be the best resource for a specific, under-covered software category than a shallow list covering everything. Depth is the point.

Community Engagement

Comments are moderated for spam and abuse, not for disagreement with our verdicts. We read every message sent through our contact page.

Legal Compliance

Our disclosure practices follow FTC guidance on endorsements and testimonials, and our content respects copyright and trademark law, including how we reference product names and marks.

03

Corrections Policy

Software changes fast — pricing, feature sets, and free-tier limits shift without notice, and a review written six months ago can go stale on a single detail without the rest of it being wrong.

How we catch errors

Through our own periodic re-checks against vendor pricing pages, and through reader corrections submitted via our contact page — we read and investigate every one.

Minor vs. substantive corrections

Minor corrections — typos, a stale dollar figure, a broken link — are fixed silently. Substantive corrections that change a verdict, a price comparison, or a recommendation are noted directly in the article, along with the date of the update.

Timelines

There’s no fixed schedule for re-verification across the whole site, but reviews are prioritized for re-checking when a reader flags an issue, when we notice a product has changed its pricing model, or as part of ongoing site maintenance.

04

AI Use in Our Editorial Process

We use AI tools as part of how this site is built and maintained — for drafting assistance, interactive calculators, and infographics. Every piece of AI-assisted work goes through human review before publication, and we never present an AI-generated claim as fact without a verifiable source behind it. The full detail of what that means in practice is in our AI Content Policy.

05

Review & Revision

This policy is reviewed as the site’s practices evolve, and at minimum annually. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated effective date.
